I’ve been looking online for Bloodwood boards that were long enough for my bass projects that are upcoming. It seems that there may be some length cutoff before an extra shipping cost, because all of the one-off board I could find were too short. Since my school has off for hunting (yes I live in that sort of rural community where kids don’t come to school during the first days of hunting season, so we’ve always had those days off...) I made a trip up to New York to a hardwood dealer which I can never get to because their hours are only 9-5 weekdays and it’s too far to get there before close after school....
I got some lovely bloodwood boards, and ended up getting $3 off per board foot! Spent a few hours after I got home re-sawing them down to 1/4” wide, give or take. This was the wood I’ve been waiting to get before I start laminating the necks, so I see an open path forward toward getting this show on the road! Somewhere along the line I’ll have to stop and build another pickup winder now that I’ve burnt out my sewing machine one, but I’m trying not to get bogged down with details and just get the ball rolling. These’ll look fantastic laminated between some beautiful flamed maple on my bass necks! I’m pretty excited.
